Aamir Khan irked with new guidelines

28th November 2011

The ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently released a directive to ban smoking on-screen in films and television shows. While many in the industry are miffed with this piece of news, one star who is overtly upset with this directive is Aamir Khan who has vocally expressed his disagreement.

Aamir Khan stated that even an act like murder is a crime which is heinous and anti-civil as well but are clearly shown on-screen then why there’s only a ban on smoking. He stated that if he’s making a film about a protagonist whose character sketch will be incomplete without a cigar in his hand then the creativity behind it gets hampered. He further exclaimed that the ministry’s directive to include the statutory warning flashing while the scene is going on will also dampen the mood and audience’s interest which could act against the interest of the film.

He stated that he personally is against tobacco and alcohol intake and hence has stayed away from promoting them. And as far as warnings are concerned he is ready to even shoot a small video to warn people about the harms of smoking that can be showed before the film starts but playing tickers while the film is running is certainly a big ‘No’ from Aamir.
