September 27, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Since there was no competition in its second week, 'Dabangg' enjoyed yet another massive outing at the box office. After breaking the opening record of Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots', Salman Khan's action entertainer has now left behind Aamir's another record making film - 'Ghajini' - behind at the end of it's second week. While 'Ghajini' was the first film to cross 100 crores at the box office and had netted 115 crores in its life time run over a 7-8 weeks duration, 'Dabangg' has surpassed this figure in two weeks flat with 116 crores coming in.
A blockbuster by all calculations, 'Dabangg' had a wonderful stay at the box office with just a little over 50% fall when compared to its first week total of 81 crores. In its second week, 'Dabangg' collected over 35 crores from across the country. Now when most of the biggies would pray to boast of such collections in their first week, a sum like this in the second week of 'Dabangg' pretty much establishes the film's acceptance amongst the audience. When many out there were expecting the film to crash on the second day, a continued stay like this has been magical to say the least.
On the other hand films like 'Life Express', 'For Real' and 'A Distant Mirage' were complete no-shows. In fact the sum total of these films also struggled to touch the 1 crore mark which pretty much tells the tale. Expect many more (inconsequential) disasters like these to follow in next four weeks with as many as 10-12 small time films releasing in October sans any promotion or hype whatsoever.
