(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Adam Sandler suggested to Tom Cruise that they perform a wife swap while shooting his newest movie.

Adam plays Jack Sadelstein alongside Tom's wife Katie Holmes in the upcoming comedy Jack and Jill. Katie portrays Jack's wife Erin Sadelstein. The movie chronicles how Jack's twin sister Jill, who is also portrayed by Adam, ruins his life.

Adam did not want Tom to feel bad about his romantic scenes with Katie, so he made the Mission: Impossible star a humorous proposal.

"[Tom said] This is weird that my wife is going to be your wife.'" Adam laughed on The Late Show with David Letterman Wednesday night. "[I told Tom] it's a PG movie, no worries, nothing is going to happen In fact, anything I do with your wife in the movie, you can do with my wife. So every morning I'd go to the set and hear 'please do a love scene. Please slowly take your shirt off in that scene and rub her ever so tenderly.'"

Adam and his real life spouse Jackie have little qualms about getting intimate with each other in unique situations. One night Adam admits that he confused his wife with a stuffed Sesame Street character during a lovemaking session.

"We get in my littlest kid's bed and flip the lights off, and I went at it pretty good," he joked. "I did some serious damage in there, and after the fact I said, 'Wasn't that great?' And [my wife] goes, 'What? Watching you bang Elmo?'"

Jack and Jill will be released in US theatres this weekend. (C) Cover Media
