Alec Baldwin thinks many Hollywood stars avoid "reality" by living on the big screen instead.

The 30 Rock star thinks actors should put their personal lives before their careers. Alec believes too many people focus on furthering their careers, while ignoring their everyday lives.

"I know a lot of actors that spend their lives working. They live on the big screen instead of in reality. They are just doing film, waiting for something," he told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine.

Alec and yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas announced their engagement this month. This will be Alec's second marriage after his nine-year union with actress Kim Basinger came to an end in 2002.

Hilaria has given Alec a different outlook on life.

"I am different from 20 years ago. I chose a different girl from my ex-wife. I don't mean that to be offensive against my first wife. But, honestly, my new girlfriend is really different from her. She is different from everybody else. Now I live day by day," he said.

"Obviously, if my girlfriend would come to me saying, 'I don't love you anymore,' I would be devastated, but I could understand it."
