Angelina Jolie: I hate Kony

9th March 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Angelina Jolie is overjoyed "to see that young people are rising up" in opposition against Joseph Kony.

Kony is the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda, a gorilla militia that kidnaps children from their homes and forces these kids to fight in battles.

Angelina, who serves as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), finds Kony despicable.

Invisible Children, an organisation that is intent on bringing Kony to justice for his atrocities and eradicating crimes against children, released a viral video on the subject recently.

Angelina thoroughly supports Invisible Children's campaign.

"[Kony]'s an extraordinarily horrible human being, who, you know... his time has come and it's lovely to see that young people are rising up as well," Angelina told Extra at the Third Annual Women In The World Summit in New York City Thursday.

Through her work with UNHCR Angelina was directly exposed to the situation. She has been deeply troubled by the matter for quite some time.

"I've been to Uganda and Congo and been to the International Criminal Court myself and spoke with the chief prosecutor about the case and he's the one that we all want to see in jail, so I think it's great that more people are talking about it," Angelina shared. "I don't know anyone who doesn't hate Kony."

Angelina, who has six tots of her own with partner Brad Pitt, thinks it's imperative that society properly cares for children.

"[Kids] inspire me," she said. "We learn from our kids, I think more than they learn from us." (C) Cover Media
