Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner have ended their two year relationship.

Brody, 28, had apparently proposed to the 27-year-old singer over the holidays but they started to get cold feet.

A source told Star magazine that the pair were experiencing a rough patch in their relationship.

"Brody and Avril aren't engaged any longer," the insider told the publication. "Things weren't working out between the two of them. They decided to go their separate ways.

"They go through incredible highs and lows in their relationship and recently things have taken a nosedive. They are just taking things day by day before making any life changing decisions."

The source added that they may have just got "cold feet" but believes there's still a chance they could reconcile.

"I don't think this is the end," the friend shared. "It sounds like they are just taking a break for now. I'm sure they'll work it out and get back together."

The pair had each other's names tattooed on themselves back in 2010 and also both had the word "f**k" inked on their bodies in matching designs.

Avril started dating Brody just months after splitting from then husband Deryck Whibley. They had been married for three years before their divorce was finalised in November 2010.
