Carrie Fisher shocked by Zeta-Jones diagnosis

10th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Carrie Fisher is surprised it took so long for Catherine Zeta-Jones to be diagnosed with bipolar II disorder.

Catherine revealed that she was receiving treatment in April after struggling to deal with the stress surrounding her husband's battle with throat cancer. In January, actor Michael Douglas announced his tumour had gone.

"I can't believe that she just would have found this out," said the Star Wars actress to OK! magazine. "Usually it's diagnosed when you're about 16, but it's great that she's found out."

Carrie Fisher has struggled with bipolar nearly all her life. The actress-and-screenwriter has credited therapy and the Jenny Craig diet for helping with her condition.

"I've been doing a lot better the past three years because I've been having the ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy)," she explained. "But the difficulty is that there are medications that make you crave carbs. It's a lot harder to keep the weight off. I could never organise a diet for myself, that is why I like that this diet is planned and they do the thinking for you. It's a simple plan for complicated lives and it's even simpler if you don't have a complicated life." (C) Cover Media
