Christina Applegate: Baby parties aren't big deal

23rd January 2012

Christina Applegate thinks first birthday parties are nothing more than a "photo op".

The actress and her fianc Martyn LeNoble are parents to daughter Sadie, who is one on January 27.

The star is planning an event to celebrate the special day, although she's not going all out with something lavish.

"I only invited people with babies, so we've got about ten babies and we're gonna do some things for the babies," She told Access Hollywood.

"Do you remember your first birthday party? No! It's a photo-op. There is going to be an activity that Sadie actually really enjoys, so, you know, we'll be doing that, and that's it. Two hours, feed them some yummy stuff and then everybody leaves."

Christina is working on her TV programme Up All Night at the moment, in which she plays the mother of a young baby called Reagan.

With work and looking after Sadie, Christina has little time for other activities. It's the same for Martyn, so last year they took an unusual step to ensure they didn't add to the pressure each other is under.

"For my birthday I [told him], Please, no gifts,'" the 40-year-old star explained.

"We both know that the other person's working so hard he composes all of the music for the show and he's working his butt off, and I'm working my butt off, so we both understand. Everything's about Sadie anyway."

The pair got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2010 but are in no rush to tie the knot. They have such a lot of work commitments they would struggle to find the time anyway, so will likely not plan a big wedding.

"The schedule, the way that it is it's just almost impossible. It really is. It's insane," Christina said.

"We kind of thought about, seriously, like a city hall thing. Like just going and doing it and being done with that part of it, then having a party six months from now."
