Colin Firth prefers romantic love scenes

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Colin Firth thinks movie sex scenes shouldnt involve full scale humping.

The 50-year-old actor has appeared in numerous love sequences during his lengthy career, and he thinks the key to their success is never being too graphic.

Colins point of reference for romantic scenes is one from the 1995 drama Sense and Sensibility, which starred Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Greg Wise and Kate Winslet.

Kate appeared as Marianne Dashwood in the film, and Colin found one love scene involving her ankle being caressed by John Willoughby portrayed by Greg - particularly effective.

The scene in Sense and Sensibility where he touches her ankle and its a full-scale sexual experience for her. We like to see some of those things refined down to those nuances that we can interpret as audiences, he told Empire magazine.

We all know that full scale humping doesnt tell any story about sex to anyone.

Colin continues to look at old films to gain inspiration for parts hes playing, and insists its the best way to learn. The star thinks old movies shouldnt simply be viewed as a wistful pleasure, as they have a lot to teach actors and directors.

I think thats why filmmaking tends to keep looking at other times. I dont think its just nostalgia, he explained. (C) Cover Media
