David Arquette: Courteney and I are best friends

11th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - David Arquette says he is still best friends with estranged wife Courteney Cox Arquette.

The actor has spoken openly about his separation from the Cougar Town actress, his subsequent breakdown and the current status of their relationship.

The 39-year-old Hollywood star revealed that despite their ongoing friendship, the former couple have not reunited.

"We're best friends," David said on Ryan Seacrests KIIS-FM radio show. "We're not together. We're still separated."

He also addressed rumours about Courteneys friendship with her Cougar Town co-star Josh Hopkins.

The 44-year-old sparked a media frenzy when she holidayed with the actor on the Caribbean island of St. Barts earlier this month.

But David insisted that he isnt affected by his estranged wifes relationship with the actor.

"She went away to St. Bart's with Coco and her best friend and Josh from the show, and I know about all of this, he added. But these tabloids make it like there's some kind of scandal going on. But there's no scandal."

Calling their relationship open and honest, the actor revealed that he is much closer to Courteney now than before their separation.

The Scream 4 star said that despite their turbulent history, their split last year has brought them closer again.

"We have 15 years together of love and friendship," he said. "We're in a better place right now then we were."

David also talked openly about his breakdown following their separation, admitting he reacted to the break-up in a "bad way".

Following months of hard partying and alcohol abuse, the actor entered rehab in January 2011 and recently announced he has been sober for 100 days.

The Hollywood star revealed that apart from his familys insistence and support, it was a head-on car collision in March that gave him additional motivation to address his issues.

"I used it to act out and shake up my world because I was heartbroken," he said. I dealt with it in the way I had to. I went where I had to go to look at myself." (C) Cover Media
