Gary Barlow: Take That is a four piece group

19th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gary Barlow still views Take That as a four piece band, even though Robbie Williams has rejoined the group.

Robbie confirmed he was reuniting with his bandmates Gary, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange last year, following months of speculation. He has recorded a new album with the group, and they are set to go on tour later this year.

Robbie first left the group in 1995, with Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason deciding to go their separate ways the following year. The four men eventually reunited in 2005, and have achieved huge success since. Gary admits it took time for them to get used to being a four piece group, and he still sees their future that way.

The interesting thing about that was we didnt think we could do it as a four, he revealed. We had that conversation, Can we do this? That was the reason we split. When we got back together, we asked again, Can we do this? Can we? We didnt know. Even moving forward we still see our future as a four piece band in general.

Gary struggled to be taken seriously as a solo artist when Take That split, and its something which still plays on his mind. Reuniting with the group was instrumental in making him feel better about himself. He revealed the moment he realised their comeback single Patience was a hit was life changing.

I wanted to be doing better stuff than I was doing. Its very hard when youre coming from a successful band and then youre not successful because nobody wants to talk to you or know you in this industry, he told BBC Radio 2. But if you love what you do and are passionate eventually you hope to get where youre going to. I think I wrote some good stuff for people. A lot of music is confidence. Getting back with the band and having our first hit Patience was amazing. Confidence is everything, you cant quantify it.

Were all in a fantastic place, were very, very happy. Bands are really difficult, it involves a number of people getting on and feeling a part of it. Were in a great place with this, everyones been involved in every corner of the album. We took a big step forward with the sound and were worried about the fan base but they seemed to love it.
