December 4, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): There is a good news for the Kolkata music lovers as Kolkata based renowned sarod player Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar composed music album has been nominated for 53rd Annual Grammy nominations. Majumdar has composed and arranged the album Om Namo Narayanaya: Soul Call, which got nominates in the Best Contemporary World Music Album category.

Pandit Tejendra, who was born in a musical family, got initially trained under his father Sri Ranjan Majumdar. Then he went to take training under the Ustad Bahadur Khan for next two decades and now he is a student of sarod genius Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon has been given the credit of Soul Call, which has been done mainly in Kolkata. Pandit Tejendra has only done the mastering in Mumbai and New York. An ecstatic Majumdar said that when this album was made, he told Chandrika that it must go for a Grammy nomination. Chandrika, who is a financial consultant, has taken music classes from renowned musician like Shubhra Guha and Pt Jasraj.

The Kolkata connection of the album is not only because of Pandit Tejendra. The Violin Brothers of the album belong to Kolkata and sitar player Rahul Chatterjee and guitarist Raja are also from the City of Joy. Other Musicians from Kolkata who have their participation in this album are Keyboard players Ablu Chakraborty and Kutty, sarod player Prattyush Banerjee and West Asian instruments player Tapas Roy.

The album has eight numbers, which are composed in different styles including Indian classical, Latin Jazz, Western classical symphony, calypso, Blues and folk.

We hope Soul Call brings a Grammy for the country!
