G.V.Prakash Kumar turns 25

13th June 2012

G. V. Prakash Kumar, prominent singer and composer turns a year old today.

Passion for singing and a marvelous voice define Kumar’s musical journey so far. Born to Venkatesh and playback singer A. R. Reihana, sister of music maestro A.R.Rahman, the singer had a knack for singing from a very tender age.

He took up his first venture as a composer at the age of 17 for the film 'Taxi Driver'. Tracks of the movie went unnoticed because of its failure at box office, but Prakash was not among those who would get discouraged by a setback. He tried once again with S. Shankar’s 'Veyil' in 2006 and became a huge hit instantly.

After Veyil, there was no looking back for Prakash. He started singing for more and more movies and also assisted his uncle in a few projects including the superhit 'Rang De Basanti'. Recently, in an interview Rahman mentioned that his nephew had a spark in him, "He has put in a lot of hard work to reach where he is today. I'm proud of him."

Prakash nurtured his passion for music and grabbed every opportunity that gave him the chance to move ahead. He worked with famous music directors like Vidyasagar, Bharadwaj and Harris Jayaraj as a keyboard programmer.

In his six year career, Prakash has given the industry a number of hit songs. Tunes of songs from movies like 'Oram Po' and 'Polladavan' still make us sing along.

From foot tapping beats to soft romantic music, G.V.Prakash Kumar has contributed to every genre of music. Starting from the grass root level, Kumar has now reached to the height of success.

We wish the young music director a lot more success and a very Happy Birthday!!
