Halle Berry quits Broadway play

18th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Halle Berry will no longer be making her Broadway debut due to custody issues.

The 44-year-old American actress had been due to make her first outing on the stage in New Yorks prestigious theatre district this September, appearing in the play Mountaintop.

However, producers of the production have revealed that Halle has now left her role in the show as she would like to concentrate on her custody battle with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey over their three-year-old daughter Nahla.

[Halle will] not be appearing in the role due to child-custody issues, producers said of the play revealed in a statement via Pop Eater.

Halle and Gabriel ended their relationship last year, and in December the male model filed papers asking to be formally recognised as the father of Nahla and requesting shared custody of the child. There were reports that Halle had concerns about her daughters well-being when she was with her father for long periods, and earlier this year the star backed out of a lead role in the movie New Years Eve because of the battle. She since re-joined the cast in a smaller role as a hearing back in February announced she could take daughter Nahla with her to New York to shoot scenes.

It is not known who will replace Halle in Mountaintop, which was written by American playwright Katori Hall. Samuel L. Jackson is still confirmed to play the role of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the production. (C) Cover Media
