Helen Mirren: I hate bad reviews

16th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dame Helen Mirren has joked that she definitely holds grudges against people who give her films bad reviews.

The Oscar-winning British actress is currently promoting her new movie The Debt, which is about settling old scores. Helen plays a former Mossad agent who must go back undercover to track down a Nazi war criminal who killed thousands of people.

Helen attended a special gala screening of the film at the Toronto International Film Festival, and warned reporters on the red carpet that she would remember any criticism they made for a very long time.

I hold a grudge, oh yes, mostly against critics!" she laughed.

Helen cant wait for people to see The Debt, which is a remake of a 2007 Israeli movie of the same name. She was extremely excited when she first read the script, because she recognised it was a role that had the potential to be better than her Academy Award-winning portrayal of Britains Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen.

"This [role] is very different," the actress said. "Whenever I play something I'm just longing and praying for something completely different to come along.

"Playing the Queen, for a while people thought I was the Queen, and I'm significantly not the Queen! Youre always looking for roles that will push the last one out of the picture and allow the audience to see you in a new way. This one certainly does that." (C) Cover Media
