Honor Killing inspired Subhash Kapoor for 'Guddu Rangeela'

25th June 2015

Journalist turned filmmaker; Subhash Kapoor recently revealed that the famous Manoj-Babli honour killing case of Haryana has been the inspiration to his latest, 'Guddu Rangeela'.

Just for readers understanding we are giving an overview of the original happening in 2009. Manoj & Babli got hitched despite of belonging to same community in Harayana, where people belonging to one community are considered as siblings as per Khap Panchayat's rule. Being a smart couple they took police protection to avoid harsh steps of Khap Panchayat. However, the couple was killed by community men in the presence of cops in 2009.

Filmmaker says, "It was at this time that I was writing Guddu Rangeela (an entertainer about these two ruffian boys, Guddu played by Amit Sadh and Rangeela played by Arshad Warsi) and I decided to incorporate the story of Manoj-Babli's case in my story .The film is not about that case and it is not about honour killing, but in the film, Guddu and Rangeela are seen fighting a case about honour killing that has happened in their family. Arshad's character in the film is based on Manoj's.And so I have even named his wife (played by Shriswara) in the film Babli."

The film seems to be a pure entertainer as promising comedy actor Arshad Warsi and Amit Sadh with lead actress, Aditi Rao Hydari.
