Hugh Jackman: I surprise my wife

13th February 2012

Hugh Jackman likes to "surprise" his wife on Valentine's Day.

The hunky actor has revealed that every year he tries to treat long-time partner Deborra-Lee Furness in a different way on the romantic date. However, he noted that the couple has rarely spent February 14 together in the past.

"We exchanged our gifts before I came on this trip. She's going to be with me three days afterwards. But for me, the most important element of Valentine's Day is the element of surprise. I think you've got to change it up every year," he told the NY Daily News.

"I don't know what it is, my wife and I have been together 17 years, and we are rarely - if ever - together on the day. It would be nice if I change it up and we're actually together. That would be a shock."

The Australian star also spoke of his upcoming role in the movie adaptation of Les Misrables. Hugh feels honoured to be working with the composer of the original hit musical.

Portraying male lead Jean Valjean, he revealed that some new songs have been added to the screen version.

"I'm in my second week of rehearsal. I had a very exciting day today actually, singing a new song by the composers of the original," he said.

"They've added some new music to the movie. And sitting in a room with the composer Claude-Michel [Schnberg], singing one of his songs, was a great honour and great thrill."
