Imran clinches 2 States, replaces SRK - Ranbir

1st June 2012

Renowned Indian author Chetan Bhagat's bestseller novel '2 States' has been in news for the longest time now as the literary piece of art has been slated for a screen adaptation. Filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala had bought the rights of the book to make it into a film with the same name.

It was earlier slated to be helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj and was supposed to have Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead. However, the plan never saw light as neither SRK nor Vishal found the time to commit to the film.

Nonetheless, the doomed hopes were revived once again when filmmaker Karan Johar came on board for the film to co-produce it with Sajid. It was then exclaimed that now Ranbir Kapoor was considered to play the lead, replacing SRK in the flick. But that casting coup too didn't materialize.

Thankfully, the fate of the film is shining yet again as now after failed attempts to get Ranbir and SRK on board, Karan has finally decided to cast Imran Khan as his lead.

Karan has worked with Imran in his film 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' and their collaboration did prove highly successful. And looking at Imran's current success streak, Karan found him the next best person to cast in this film.

Though SRK, Ranbir couldn't make it to the film, it is reassuring to see a star like Imran stepping in to save the film from falling.

The novel based film is about an inter caste marriage between a Punjabi boy and a South Indian girl.
