2nd July 2015

On May 16th last year, the World Peace Centre (Alandi) and MAEER's Maharastra Institute of Technology, Pune inaugurated the Raj Kapoor Memorial at their Rajbaug Educational Complex in Loni, Kalbhor and it was inaugurated by the late Raj Kapoor's son's Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor.

This year too, the MIT School of Film and Television will use 25 acres of the same locality which also houses Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy alongside Raj Kapoor and his parent's memorials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jabbar Patel said, "The basics of the curriculum will be similar to that at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, but we will offer far more advanced technical training."

The governing council of the school include many veterans from the film industry like Mani Ratnam, Maammootty, Resul Pookutty, A Sreekar Prasad and Shankar Mahadevan.

Dr. Patel further added, "Raj Kapoor saab was one of the legends of Indian cinema, whose name was second only to Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister in the '50s and '60s; he'd be happy to see young talent blooming on his beloved Loni farm."
