The Oscar-winning actress will star alongside Josh Brolin in the dark thriller, adapted from a 2009 novel by Joyce Maynard. The storyline follows a single mother called Adele as she is out shopping with her teenage son Henry over the Labor Day weekend in the early 80s. The pair encounter a dangerous looking man who is nursing a bleeding wound, and despite their reservations, they agree to help the guy played by Brolin - and take him back to their house. However, events take a more sinister turn as police begin searching the neighbourhood for an escaped convict and Adele and Henry learn some disturbing details about their guest.

Jason Reitman will direct the movie and is hoping to begin shooting in New England in 2012. Steven Rales and Mark Roybal are executive producers on the project.

The picture has been described as a thriller, love story and coming-of-age tale. (C) Cover Media
