Katy Perry believes that women and cats have a lot in common.
The Teenage Dream singer has recently released her perfume Meow in American retail store Nordstrom's.
Hanging around Kitty Purry got Katy thinking about the similarities that cats and women share.
"I started to realise I think women are like cats," Katy explained.
"They want to be loved on their own time; they want people to earn their affection. And they won't meet you at the door unless you're really nice."
Inspiration for the scent did not derive from her love for felines.
"[The scent] stems from cat hate, actually," Katy told Extra.
"I didn't really understand cats until my first [and current] cat, Kitty Purry, walked into my life and wouldn't leave."
When Katy is not at home spending time with her cat, she is nesting with her husband, comic actor Russell Brand.
While celebrating their one-year marriage anniversary in October, the couple preferred quiet time to extravagant festivities.
"We just stayed home because a lot of our life exists out in the open," Katy said.
"So we just wanted to have that moment to ourselves."
Katy has just been named MTV's 2011 Artist of the Year.
Her perfume Meow is now available in Nordstrom's across the US.
