(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kerry Washington admits that learning German for Django Unchained "was hard".
The actress stars alongside Jamie Foxx in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film.
Django Unchained follows the story of a slave-turned-bounty hunter on a mission to rescue his wife Broomhilda, portrayed by Kerry.
Kerry had to study German for her role, as her character Broomhilda spoke the language fluently.
The star confesses that it took a long time for her to speak comfortably in her new tongue.
"It was hard. I speak Spanish, and I'm much more familiar with romance languages," she told Collider at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
"I have recordings of my initial lessons. I'd say a word and they'd be like, No, it's this,' and I'd be like, There's no difference!' They have seven versions of one vowel. I was like, What are you talking about?!' "
Kerry loves communicating in her new language.
"For me, one of the most enjoyable things about playing this character was that she speaks German, at times. She also speaks English, but I had a whole scene with Christoph [Waltz] in German, and I sing in German, in the film. That was really fun, for me," she shared.
"To have the opportunity to learn another language was great." (C) Cover Media
