Bollywood celebs grabbed the headlines when they turned out in large numbers to fulfil their duty to vote for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and many others stepped out to cast their votes. However, B-town's action hero Akshay Kumar giving a miss to elections got him a lot of flak from citizens; questioning his love towards the nation.
The actor was questioned about the same during an event where he chose to ignore, giving rise to a lot of criticism and trolling. Though the actor chose to ignore the question, he further explained his side on Twitter. Akki tweeted, "I really don't understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India. while all these years, U have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequences to others. Lastly I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger."
Backing him his co-star from several movies Anupam Kher took a stand and tweeted, "Dear @akshaykumar! Have been reading about you explaining to certain people about your loyalty to our country. Stop it! Their real profession is to make people like you & me feel defensive for talking in favour of India. You are a doer. You don’t need to explain to anybody."
In entire process while many trolled these actors, some also respected their opinions. Read their tweets below-
