Mario Lopez has proposed to his girlfriend.

The American TV presenter popped the question to his girlfriend Courtney Mazza over the New Year. The pair were holidaying on the Mexican island of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo when Mario asked. They were surrounded by family, friends and television cameras.

"I've come to the realisation that I'm never going to meet another woman as special and amazing as the one I have and I think she's finally succumb to my pressure and will take me. So we'll see, I hope," Mario said.

The proposal was filmed for Extra, the show Mario presents.

The programme followed him as he planned how to ask Courtney the evening before he did so.

"See that's the ring right there. And I'm debating right now, do I do the box like this like - bam! Like they do in The Bachelor," he mused.

The 38-year-old also took the time to speak to the camera just before popping the question.

"The sun's almost setting. The family's there and my friends. We're good to go. Wish me luck!" he said.

The scenes will be shown on the programme today, when fans will get to see whether Courtney accepted.

Mario and Courtney have 15-month-old daughter Gia together.

He has wed before, although his marriage to Ali Landry was annulled after two weeks.
