In the year soon to be gone by, several iconic celebrities left us for the heavenly above. We list down some of the famous personalities whose legacy will live on and who will be missed forever by the industry and their fans.

Yash Chopra (1932-2012)

The most recent and possibly most severe blow in 2012 to Bollywood has been that of maestroYash Chopra. The genius who brings romance in Bollywood passed away on 21, October. The iconic legendary filmmaker and director gave us films like Silsila, Kabhie Kabhie, Chandni, Lamhe, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Veer Zaara, and Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Superstar like Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan.

Rajesh Khanna (1942-2012)

The first Superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna breathed his last on 18th, July. The loss of the original king of romance shocks the nation who had millions of fans across the country. The Superstar was suffering for a long time. His last words were ‘Time ho gaya, pack Up!’.

RK earned the title of 'Original Superstar' following 15 consecutive solo hit films in the 1970's, a record that remains unbroken. To his credit the phenomenal actor has films like Amardeep, Phir Wohi Raat, Bandish, Thodi Si Bewafaii, Dard, Kudrat, Dhanwan, Ashanti, Avtaar, Agar Tum Na Hote, Soutan, Jaanwar, Asha, Jyoti, Awaaz, Naya Kadam, Hum Dono, Babu, Aaj Ka M.L.A. Ram Avtar etc.

Dara Singh (1928-2012)

Wrestler turned Bollywood actor, Dara Singh famously known as the original action hero of Indian cinema passed away on July 12 after keeping unwell for a long time. The legendary actor was also known as Rustame-Hind for his achievements in wrestling. Later on he became a character artist and became famous in Bollywood. In his early film career he paired with Mumtaj to give more than a dozen hit films. Later on, his performances as Hanuman in TV serials brought him tremendous fame.

AK Hangal (1917-2012)

The freedom fighter and a veteran Bollywood actor A K Hangal left this world on 26 August after prolonged illness. He was suffering from Pulmonary TB and Kidney problems. A K Hangal had acted in over 225 films. His best and most remembered performances came in character roles in films like Namak Haram, Sholay, Shaukeen, Aaina, Bawarchi and others.
