Rachel Weisz: My father was a harsh critic

18th December 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rachel Weisz's father "hated the idea" of her being an actress.

The Oscar-winning star's parents were unsure of her career path initially. However, their minds were soon changed when she began to reap rewards for her hard work and commitment.

"My father hated the idea. He was a harsh critic. He didn't think I should be acting because he thought I wasn't good enough. So in some ways I've felt rather guilty about my profession. It's actually come quite easily to me and that feeds my natural inclination towards guilt and self-examination," she revealed in an interview with Psychologies magazine.

"But I think my parents were both relieved once I began to enjoy some success and they saw how much I loved it."

Rachel's breakthrough role came in the 1996 movie Chain Reaction. She then went on to enjoy a high-profile role in The Mummy in 1999, and the 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns.

She starred in The Constant Gardener for which she received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild prize award for her supporting role as Tessa Quayle. (C) Cover Media
