December 10, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Academy Award winning actor Robin Williams will set his first foot on 'Broadway' with the production Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. According to reports in the media, the original cast of the west coast production has been retained and Robin Williams is the only addition at the New York show. Surprisingly, it is Robin Williams who has been roped in to play the lead role in the upcoming Broadway production replacing Kevin Tighe, who played the Bengal Tiger in the Los Angeles show.
Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo was first played at the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles; the Center Theater Group also being the producers of the New York show. The play begins at a time when the United States launched an invasion on Iraq. The Bengal Tiger in the play roams around the city of Baghdad in Iraq in his quest for the answer to the question What is Life? But the answer that he receives is war and the benefits which come from warring. As the play progresses, both Americans and Iraqis are shown seeking redemption and want to be friends again!
Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo has been nominated in the final stages of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and will start playing in New York in the month of March next year.
