Rose Byrne: Bridesmaids is not female Hangover

8th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Rose Byrne insists her new comedy Bridesmaids is nothing like The Hangover.

Comparisons have been made between the two films, with Bridesmaids focusing on Kristen Wiig's character trying to reign in the chaos that ensues during the events leading up to her friend's wedding. However, Rose believes the comparisons to The Hangover, which follows a group of guys on a stag party in Las Vegas, are unfair.

"Well they're both about a wedding, but after that the similarities end. Still, the comparison is flattering," she told Psychologies magazine. "The Hangover allowed everyone to make fun of weddings and the ridiculousness of them in a way that was previously not allowed. Bridesmaids is trying to show women can be as bold with their comedy as men. It's trying not to pull punches."

Bridesmaids was a box office smash in the US, earning over $100 million. Although she is proud of the movie she admits playing her character was tough. She plays Kristen's bridesmaid rival in the comedy.

"I found the character of Helen a challenge because we're very different," she explained. "She's pushy. She's insensitive. She has lots of money and doesn't realise that other people don't. She's always organising things. I'm not like that at all. I can't organise anything. I can't make a piece of toast. I'm not a doer. I'm unaccomplished in that sense." (C) Cover Media
