Russell Crowe: I dont want to play superheroes

16th November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Russell Crowe isnt interested in playing a superhero, saying its just not my thing.

The Hollywood star is renowned for portraying tough characters and has appeared in movies such as Gladiator, Robin Hood and Cinderella Man. Although Russell enjoys shooting action scenes, he wouldnt consider playing a hero with superhuman powers.

He has also revealed that despite having won an Oscar, it is difficult to find roles which interest him.

Man, its like the needle in the haystack, he told the BBC when asked if he is spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing film parts. The business itself is shaping itself around event films, which are quite often cartoons or superheroes, and its just not my thing. You just have to be patient.

Russells latest big screen outing is in The Next Three Days. He plays a man who is willing to do anything to get his wife out of jail, after she is imprisoned for murder.

The 46-year-old has developed a reputation for being difficult to work with and has had run-ins with paparazzi and hotel staff. Russell has previously insisted he doesnt believe he has an aggressive personality and feels he is often misunderstood.

The star has now claimed people get confused between the real Russell and the complicated movie characters he plays.

Im not sure I ever deserved that reputation. I mean, I certainly cant compete with the likes of Charlie Sheen. I dont mean anything negative by that, sorry Charlie, mate, he said.

A lot of that is the gap that opens up between who you really are as a person and the characters that you play. I have never bothered to fill that information in, so Ive left a whole bunch of air for other people to fill in for me.

Paul Haggis, who directed The Next Three Days, insists Russell was a joy to work with. He has revealed the pair formed a close bond and inspired each other on the set of the film.

It was a great relationship, we started off with mutual respect and we challenged each other where we needed to be challenged, Paul explained. It was all about the material, nothing trivial. We had a wonderful relationship. (C) Cover Media
