(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ryan Gosling was eager to portray a "psycho" in his new violent film.
Ryan plays the unnamed driver-for-hire in upcoming action thriller Drive. His dubious character is a Hollywood stunt man during the day and a getaway driver at night. Ryan was revved up for his deranged role.
"I don't know, I just felt ready to play a psycho," Ryan told MTV News.
Although he enjoyed portraying a brutal character, Ryan has a big soft spot for heartwarming family films. One director specifically, who helmed legendary films such as Breakfast Club, inspired Ryan greatly throughout the Drive shoot.
"What I was really focused on was making a violent John Hughes movie. I love John Hughes movies," Ryan explained.
Classic films from the 80s united Ryan and director Nicholas Refn. The pair shared the same vision.
"I love Pretty in Pink, but I always wished there was some blood with the cotton candy," Ryan said. "A little violence, a little head-smashing thrown in there for good measure. And so when I met Nicholas, he had had the same fantasy, too, so we just tried to go down that road."
Drive will be in cinemas September 16. (C) Cover Media
