Salman Khan had just heaved a sigh of relief after he was set free of all the charges relating to his 2002 Hit-and-Run case. Thus, he partied in full swing on his 50th birthday at his Panvel farmhouse. In full spirits the actor also announced his next venture a retail shopping portal named KhanMarket.
However, the actor has been asked to withdraw the name of his site khanmarketonline.com by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) to avoid any confusion with an already existing site of a similar name.
A statement from CAIT states, "CAIT has shot up a communication to actor Salman Khan today (Sunday) urging him to withdraw the name of Khan Market from his web portal ‘khanmarketonline.com’ which he has announced on his birthday on December 27, 2015."
"A name by custom/practice/usage over a long period of time by a group of persons becomes an intellectual property right of that group of persons is an integral part of principle of natural justice. Accordingly, the first lien of using the name ‘Khan Market’ lies with traders of Khan Market only."
Established in 1951 Khan Market was ranked 24th most expensive retail location worldwide by global real estate services from Cushman & Wakefield.
"The name chosen by Salman Khan is more deceptive and infringes the rights of traders of Khan Market."
"We will not allow anyone to encroach upon the goodwill earned by traders for the market in the last 65 years," was further said by CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal.
