Salman's visit to Sri Lanka triggers controversy

2nd January 2015

Unfortunately despite of being the most loved star of the country, Salman Khan often comes under the ire of a section of the society. This time it was his charity work that got him into trouble.

Salman, who recently visited Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been facing a lot of heat from political troublemakers – both in India and Sri Lanka.

While Salman claims that he visited Sri Lanka on the eve of New Year's to donate a sum to flood affected people, people from the opposition party state that he has been paid to promote the president. An opposition candidate even claimed that Khan was offered (Sri Lankan) Rs700 million [Dh19.5m].

However, countering every argument, Salman stated that his intentions have been clean, "I came here for the IIFA five years ago and I became very close with Namal and his family.  Since it is the New Year, I took a day off to come and visit your flood affected areas and see the victims. Through my charity I want to help people and spread awareness among them. Also through this camp we will be doing cataract operations and will be giving more medical assistance to the people. This is what we do and it is nothing political. The President is an amazing man and he is one of the most humble people that I have met," he said.
