Filmmaker and Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam founder Seeman has welcomed the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Chennai and also urged her to take the Sri Lankan Tamils issue to the United Nations. Banners and posters welcoming Hillary to Chennai have been put up on the road leading to city from the airport by activists of the Naam Thamizhar organisation.
"The war is over in Sri Lanka but the suppression of Tamils in Sri Lanka is still on. So we request you to intervene in the issue," said one of the banners on the arterial GST Road, which featured photos of Hillary and the victims of Lankan war.
Hillary was on a one-day visit to Chennai, where she met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The Chief Minister also discussed the Lankan Tamils issue with her. The US Secretary of State addressed an audience of students, opinion-makers and other citizens of south India at the Anna Centenary Library and also visited the Kalakshetra Foundation.
