September 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who is playing an important role in Deepa Mehta's upcoming movie Midnight's Children, is keeping the details of her character secret.
Shabana, who was earlier supposed to star in Mehta's Water, is not in a mood to disclose the details of her role in Midnight's Children. However, she has admitted that she has found the script very thrilling one. Azmi said that when she read it, she thought it would be impossible to make a film on this Booker Prize-winning novel by Salman Rushdie. She is impressed to see the screenplay that Deepa and Salman have come up with, the actress added.
The veteran actress is also excited to get a chance with Deepa again after the bitter story of Water. In that movie, she was replaced by another talented actress, Seema Biswas, whereas Nandita Das was replaced by Lisa Ray. Some angry fundamentalists disrupted shooting in Varanasi and the team had to move to Sri Lanka to complete the shooting.
Midnight's Children will start shooting in this October and before this Shabana will complete her US tour with one-woman play, 'Broken Images'.
The actress may be keeping the details of character secret due to the fear of losing the chance of working with Deepa again! After Water, she has been a bit cautious probably!
