Sienna Miller: Being detestable is liberating

9th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sienna Miller has grown to love being detestable after appearing on stage.

The actress starred in the Broadway production of After Miss Julie which premiered in October 2009. She appeared alongside Jonny Lee Miller in the play, which finished last year.

The 29-year-old played Miss Julie, a rich lady in her 20s, who was not popular with audiences. The actress says revealing yourself on stage can be quite intimidating, especially when the crowd are opinionated.

In New York the audiences were very vocal, which was quite difficult because my theyd be like, Oh, shes disgusting! What a vile woman, and its hard not to take that personally, she told Stylist. At first I was really trying to go for the sympathy vote, but by the end of it, I sort of loved being detestable. I was ashen on the floor, spitting on Jonny. In the end, I found it really liberating.

Sienna says she owes a lot to the role, as it allowed her to overcome her fear of not being liked all the time. The beauty always worries too much about peoples judgments of her, and After Miss Julie made her realise public opinion isnt the be all and end all.

A lot of what inhibits me is my attachment to what people think. And I think I overcame a hurdle with After Miss Julie because I didnt need to beloved [by everybody], she explained.

The British star avoids the internet at all costs as she hates seeing gossip about herself. Sienna says theres rarely any good that can come of Googling herself, so she just steers clear altogether.

I just dont read things, she said. In our family we have a no Google policy. In fact, I rarely use the internet, I dont even do social networking. (C) Cover Media
