September 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): As Christmas draws near, all the big companies are coming out with their latest offerings. The eBook reader market is war zone these days and the biggest combatants are Amazon's Kindle and Sony's Reader. Now Sony has come out with the new Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch. The new Sony Reader has a very glossy screen and that is not very conducive for the reading outdoor.
Sony has incorporated the latest E Ink technology in their new reader and it seems that the consumers will like the natural feel of the pages. Initial reports suggest that the refresh rate of the new device is much faster than its predecessors so page turn rates will be better. The EInk technology offers the users to choose over 16 shades of gray which has doubled over the last offering of 8 shades of gray.
The new readers will have certain external changes as well like the brushed aluminum body that feels great to hold. The overall quality of the product is good and the construction feels solid. The user interface of the new reader has been overhauled to give it a fresh look. The users are no longer greeted with boring lists, instead they can have a look at the book covers images to access their favorite reads.
The new reader accepts a wide range of formats and a huge range of shopping choices to the users. Although the new Sony PRS-650 is costlier than Kindle we have to see if it can drive out Kindle from its throne.
