"There are some severely hyped films that have failed" - Sonakshi

9th September 2010

September 9, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): 'Dabangg' is all set to take a bumper opening but Sonakshi Sinha, the leading lady who makes her debut with the film, is keeping her excitement in check. As hours remain for her launch opposite Salman Khan to be seen on the big screen, Sonakshi talks about her big release and why she is not still not making any announcements before audience passes it's verdict.

Sonakshi, you chose a 'masala' fare like 'Dabangg' as your debut film. While starting your career, was it always there at the back of your mind that 'I want to be a part of an out and out masala fare'?

See, there is no such thing as a 'masala' or a formula film these days. Audience has become very smart. It expects some standard of cinema in each outing. You cater to them in any genre, whether it is commercial or art film, drama or comedy, just about anything but what matters in the end is that the quality of your product has to be good. Obviously with Salman coming into picture, your film does obviously become out and out commercial.

And safe too?

One can never think about any film as safe or unsafe. Face of cinema has changed. There are some severely hyped films that have bombed badly while some films with a totally unknown cast and director are turning hits. So when you choose to do a film, especially as a newcomer, you have to trust the judgement or your co-star, director, script writer and producer. All four of these have to fall into place and this is what happened in case of 'Dabangg'. It has been a perfect launch.

Yes, one can sense this, also because you seem to be sharing good camaraderie with producer Arbaaz (Khan) and director Abhinav (Kashyap) as well...

It was a very comfortable and eased out shoot and since everyone around me was doing their job so well, it made it all very easy for me. I wonder that tomorrow when I have to work with a newer set of people whom I won't quite know too well, how it would be for me. Arbaaz and Abhinav are confident though that I would be able to handle the new environment with as much ease. Still, I keep telling Arbaaz and Abhinav that they have spoilt me in my very first film.
