It is Shashank Khaitan directorial 'Dhadak' an official remake of Nagraj Manjule's 2016 Marathi Blockbuster 'Sairat' and the film is just rocking the box-office numbers and has surpassed 'Student Of The Year' to become the highest opening Bollywood film featuring newcomers.
This Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor starrer registered a staggering 8.71 crore on Friday, showed a steering growth on Saturday raking 11.04 cr on Saturday and a whopping 13.92 cr on Sunday marking a total of 33.67 cr in its opening weekend.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the official numbers, "And the BO numbers do the talking... #Dhadak packs an IMPRESSIVE TOTAL in its opening weekend... A consistent run on weekdays will help put up a STRONG Week 1 total... Fri 8.71 cr, Sat 11.04 cr, Sun 13.92 cr. Total: ₹ 33.67 cr. India biz."
The film has catered mixed reviews from both critics and the audiences. 'Sairat' is the first Marathi film to cross the 100 crore mark with a lifetime collection of 110 crores. Just like the original, this one is a story of two innocent lovers, Parthavi Singh (Janhvi Kapoor) and Madhukar Bagla (Ishaan Khatter), who belong to different castes. Things get worse as Parthavi's family finds out their affair, and the couple is forced to fall apart.
The film already attracted a lot of curiosity to it as it marked the debut of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor. While the fans also wanted to witness whether it re-creates the magic of Sairat.
