Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, fondly known as Tiger Pataudi, passed away yesterday at Sir Ganga Ram hospital in New Delhi. Since a few days, he was keeping unwell and breathed his last after a respiratory failure leading to cardiac arrest.
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the ninth and the last Nawab of Pataudi until India abolished Royal entitlements, was still known as the Nawab. But it was not just his royal lineage that made him a part of many people's lives and hearts. Tiger Pataudi was one of the best Captains, Indian cricket ever had. He was the first Captain who showed confidence that India can win on an International platform as well. Under his Captaincy, India won many matches. In an international career spanning over 15 years, Pataudi played 46 Tests, scoring 2,793 runs with six Test centuries at an average of 34.91, all the while playing with just one good eye. In 1961, in a car accident, he lost the vision of his right eye completely. But this Nawab was a true Royal and the injury didn't deter him from continuing playing Cricket. He didn't just play, he played extremely well. Until 2004 when he was surpassed by Tatenda Taibu, he held the world record for the youngest test captain and to date holds the record for the youngest Indian captain.
This handsome Nawab, was a heart throb of many, including actress Sharmila Tagore. They both got married on 27th December, 1969 and were blessed with three children- Saif Ali Khan, Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan. Even though god took away an eye from Pataudi, he still saw beauty in life. God snatched one thing from him, but blessed him with a successful career and a beautiful, loving family.
Fridaymoviez offers its deepest condolences to the Nawab's family and may this Tiger, after living a beautiful life, rest in peace.
