Tom Hardy admits that "it takes some juggling" to communicate with his family.

The Dark Knight Rises actor is father to four-year-old son Louis from a previous relationship.

Tom is often traveling to film, but he can't bear to be away from his boy for too long.

"I like to go no longer than three weeks without seeing my loved ones, but it does take some juggling," Tom shared in the August edition of Company Magazine.

"I'm very much aware of being a 'Skype father,' which is sad. But I have to have the finances to make sure [my son will] be secure, and I can only do that by working."

"[Louis] plays rugby. He's rubbish at it but he's really full of heart," he said. "He's a beautiful boy. But I would think that, wouldn't I?"

Tom, 34, is currently in a relationship with actress Charlotte Riley, 30.

He confesses that he can be a bit of a demanding boyfriend at times.

"[I'm] quite needy," he said. "I was an only child so I got a lot of attention from my mum. I think that is naturally going to transfer onto any poor woman who's in my life. However, if you were my partner, you'd get a lot of attention back."
