(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Topher Grace has revealed he fell into acting by accident.
The American actor is best known for his portrayal of Eric Forman on the FOX sitcom That 70s Show. Topher, 32, has recalled his big break into acting, which stemmed from a performance in his high school play when he was 17. After not being able to play sport due to an injury, he tried out for the lead role in his school play A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but didnt expect to land the part.
When I was 17, I made the varsity tennis team, and I wound up spraining my ankle twice, so I couldnt do that that spring, Topher explains in MTVs When I Was 17. I really didnt think Id get it. There were some kids who were really great actors, and I still maintain that they were better actors then I am.
Topher has revealed that his after his performance, a friends parents who happened to be film producers approached him. The actor misconstrued the news, as he thought he was being asked to become a production assistant.
So the crazy thing about that play is this girl who was a friend of mine - her parents were big-time Hollywood producers. They wrote for Saturday Night Live, they wrote Waynes World and Tommy Boy, and they came up to me after the play and said, Well call you at some point, he said. I thought they needed a P.A. on one of their shows, so I said something really stupid.
Nine months later the actor was approached by the producers regarding a role in a sitcom they were developing. The actor auditioned for the role which eventually landed him a part in That 70s Show.
They called me and they said, Were making a sitcom about the 70s. I still thought they wanted an assistant, but they said, Oh no, we want you to audition. (C) Cover Media
