Vanessa Paradis: Depp split is private

13th August 2012

Vanessa Paradis has refused to talk about her split from Johnny Depp as it is no one's "concern" but theirs.

The couple confirmed they had separated after 14 years together earlier this year. The famously private stars were dogged with rumours about their doomed relationship many months before the announcement.

While promoting her new film Cornouaille, Vanessa was faced with a question about Johnny, which she refused to answer.

"I don't want to talk about him," she told the French edition of Elle. "Who said that artists should sell their soul, expose everything about themselves? It's my duty to promote this movie, and my albums, but can you imagine what it feels like to see people making a business out of your pain.

"What's happened to us is our concern."

Vanessa hinted about her feelings in the wake of the separation in the interview. The 39-year-old beauty revealed her secret to living a fulfilled life.

"I don't have the recipe for happiness, but I think the engine is simply having the desire," she explained. "It's not feeling obliged or forced or repeating yourself.

"I hate, for example, whenever you hear someone say: 'You have work at being a couple. No, you have to want to be there. And for me, I want to be right where I am right now.'"

Vanessa and Johnny have two children together - Lily Rose, 13, and ten-year-old Jack. The star explained her kids will attend school in Los Angeles while she'll continue to separate her time between America and France for work commitments.

"My children are grown now, they are more independent," she said. "My daughter loves singing above all else. Jack, he's a guitarist."
