Woody Allen attracted to comedy role

18th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Woody Allen believes there is a suitable role for him to play in his latest movie project.

The veteran moviemaker has enjoyed a career spanning over five decades, and famously used to take lead roles in many of his films. As he's grown older the 75-year-old has begun to shy away from the camera, with his last big acting part playing Sid Waterman in his 2006 hit Scoop. Woody thinks his latest project, a romantic drama set in Rome, is perfect for him to return to acting though.

"It's a broad comedy, not a romantic comedy, of various tales interwoven. I'm one of them, in one of them. All the parts are quite significant, there are no cameos. There just happened to be a part that I could play," he told Cinema Blend at a recent press event.

Woody has lined up A-listers such as Penlope Cruz and Alec Baldwin to appear in the movie, and admits he is regretful he can no longer take the part of the love interest. He has explained the vague concept behind the picture, which is set to begin shooting this summer.

"I can't play the love interest anymore, which is tremendously frustrating. My wife and myself go to Rome because our daughter is going to marry an Italian boy that she met there, and we go over to meet him and meet his family, and what ensues. The film is very broadly funny," he added. (C) Cover Media
