Zac Efron's motto is "party tonight, plan for tomorrow".
The star attended the premiere of his new movie New Year's Eve at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Monday.
The film follows the lives of several couples and singles in New York intertwining over the course of December 31.
The 24-year-old explained why the special date is important to him.
"New Year's Eve to me is really just being grateful for everything that you have got," he told a UK TV show at the premiere. "It is about really appreciating the present. Live for today, plan for tomorrow, party tonight."
The star escorted his co-star Michelle Pfeiffer down the red carpet. The pair share several scenes in the movie, which boats an all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Sarah Jessica Parker and Abigail Breslin.
Another pair of stars, Ashton Kutcher and Lea Michele, also share a story in the film.
Newly-single Ashton and the Glee actress appeared to be getting along very well as they laughed together and playfully touched one another during the event.
Lea looked stunning in a silver plunging Valentino gown.
The pair play strangers who get stuck in an elevator in the film. The two eventually get together and Lea admitted that kissing the Two and a Half Men star was one of the perks of the role.
"I mean who wouldn't choose to kiss Ashton?" she laughed.
