Mudassar Aziz directorial 'Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi' keeps up with the race to entertain the audiences with quite a lot of funny moments, this time with blazing Chinese and flavour of Urdu and Hindi combined we surely have a lot of laughs while watching it. The first venture 'Happy Bhag Jayegi' released in 2016 was a laugh ride and it does not stop here with the addition of Sonakshi Sinha in its sequel.
The film revolves around two Harpreet Kaur aka Happy played by Sonakshi Sinha and Diana Penty respectively. This time Sonakshi plays a horticulture professor who visits China to get placed for a job in a university. Whereas the other Happy aka Diana Penty is accompanying her husband Guddu played by Ali Fazal who is invited for a live performance. Sonakshi is kidnapped by the Chinese for a political task that needs to be done, which is about a China-Pak contract. So the plan was to abduct the original Happy played Diana to blackmail the Pakistani minister Bilal played by Abhay Deol in its prequel. Ultimately Happy aka Sonakshi escapes and accidentally meets an Indian Punjabi munda Khushi played by Jassie Gill who works for the Indian embassy in China. While the other narrative has the super-hit duo of Jimmy Sheirgill as Daman Singh Bagga and Piyush Mishra as retired Pakistani cop from Lahore Usman Afridi. Both are kidnapped in a funny way indeed.
The two antagonist Jason Tham who plays a Chinese agent Chang is working for a Pakistani origin Chinese businessmen Adnan Chow who manoeuvres Urdu dialogues fluently and plays a spot on role of a villain. As Ali Fazal and Diana Penty are enjoying their visit to China, the rest end up in an unwanted mess. The India-Pakistan clash in dialoguebaazi was missing though, Piyush Mishra did his job that made us giggle many times. Jassi Gill's presence is worth it and the times when he is traumatised and keeps on speaking randomly are the legit funny moments from the film. With the mention of Bilal, many times we were left wondering will Abhay Deol have a cameo to play but that's not the case. Surprisingly, Aparshakti Khurrana has an interesting supporting role to play as Happy's childhood friend who slays his role of a gay guy wearing those tight pink outfit and a gayface that would surely leave an impression.
Performances wise we wanted more of Jimmy Sheirgill and Piyush Mishra in terms of 'jugalbandi' as they both are the spine of the film delivering most of the quirks on their own. Sonakshi Sinha as Punjabi Kudi slays with her attire and performance as well. The audience would accept her as Happy but won't forget Diana from the prequel and yeah she has her part to play in the film's climax.
Mudassar Aziz's dialogues and direction is why we would find the film engaging and up to the mark. The film's location Shanghai nurtures the narrative of the film and the cluster of confusion in a Chinese speaking nation was digestible. Cinematography by Sunil Patel is endearing capturing the developed side of China with its cinematic liberties. Film's editing by Ninad Khanolkar is impeccable and culminating as he connects the narrative of the film flawlessly. The songs are not catchy and the only number that would remain in your head is 'Chin Chin Chu' performed by Sonakshi and Jassie that plays in the film's end credit scene.
We never get bored in this 2hrs 16 minutes movie packed with deliberate funny moments. Well, if you enjoyed its prequel, then Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi would be a relevant comedy entertainer for you.
