A complaint against film 'Sanju' for toilet leakage scene

13th June 2018

Rajkumar Hirani directorial 'Sanju' which is a biopic on the controversial actor Sanjay Dutt that also showcases his connection with the 1993 Bombay Blast case and getting jailed for the same. A complaint has been filled at the Central Board of Film Certification regarding a scene in the film's trailer, which according to the complainant "will make a bad impression about jails authorities of India."

Reports suggest that an activist named Prithvi Mhaske opposed to the toilet leakage scene in the film's trailer and wrote a letter to the Censor Board chief Prasoon Joshi. The letter read: "As per the information available the government and jail authorities are taking a very well care of all the barracks of the jails. We never heard any such incidents anywhere. Earlier as well many movies were released based on the gangsters where in the jails were covered but never had seen such incidents."

Mhaske further wrote, "If there is no action about the same by you then we are left with no option to approach the honourable court to put stay on the release of the movie." However, it will be interesting to see whether CBFC takes the complaint seriously or it is ignored. The scene from the trailer is from the prison when Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned in 1993 under the arms act case. So how can a 25-year-old Jail scene affect an image of the management in current time?

Sanjay Dutt spent 1 and a half year in jail during the trial and he was finally convicted for the illegal possession of weapons by the Supreme Court in 2013 when he was sentenced to five years in Pune's Yerwada Jail. The film is just a couple of weeks away from its release on June 29.
