A. R. Rahman's song hurts religious sentiments

17th January 2012

The Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF) has issued strong opposition to 'Hosanna' , a song composed by A R Rahman for Gautham Vasudev Menon directed "Ekk Deewana Tha", the Bollywood version of Tamil hit "Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya".

Alleging that the song has hurt not only Christian but also Jewish sentiment, the Forum wanted the song to be withdrawn. The CSF has also demanded an unconditional apology from those behind the song.

In a letter to Rahman and others concerned like Fox Star Studio and Sony Music, CSF has demanded an apology, alleging that the song has hurt Christian and Jewish religious sentiments, 'Hosanna' being a prayer for both communities.

CSF also plans to launch a public agitation if no action is taken against the song. Joseph Dias, CSF general secretary said, 'If you would not use Islamic, Hindu or prayers from any other religion in pop secular music, then why do you use 'Hosanna'.'
