After Cricket, SRK eyes football

1st June 2012

It seems that the super success of his co-owned cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders at the fifth edition of Indian Premiere League has made Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan hungry for more.

The star cum entrepreneur has tasted blood with sports and is certainly craving for more.  After venturing into cricket club ownership, he has now forayed into football as well.

It was recently learnt that King Khan is acquiring a 50% shareholding in one of India's oldest and most successful football clubs, Dempo FC

The deal is apparently costing him around a humongous 30 crore, but the amount is nothing in front of his passion for sports and interest in the business of sports. The talks are however at an initial stage and the deal will be sealed in coming weeks.

A few more businessmen and corporates too are bidding for the same. But at the moment, it is SRK who might bag the opportunity of holding stakes in the football club Dempo which made history in April this year when it won the I-League crown for a record fifth time.

It recently bought a 34% stake in leading Danish soccer club and academy FC Midtjylland, for 12 million euros. The club is currently fully-owned by a business group with the same name in Goa.
