The 52-year-old actor was thrilled to be attending last nights Golden Globe Awards, where he was nominated for his hilarious performance as Jack Donaghy on the hit TV show 30 Rock.

Despite Jim Parsons eventually winning the prize for his part in The Big Bang Theory, Alec was happy just to be in attendance, and took the night as a chance to tell his favourite stars how much he admires them.

This girls going to be the biggest movie star of her generation, gushed Alec to Access Hollywood when describing Rooney, who appeared in The Social Network winner of the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama.

Other actors who have impressed Alec recently include Hollywood heartthrobs Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. According to Alec, the past year in movies has been a particularly successful one.

I want to tell Christian Bale how great he was in The Fighter. I want to tell Ben Affleck how great he was in The Town, he enthused. I saw a bunch of films this year where I thought, Man, people really, really have done great work.

Another star who was happy not to receive an award on the night was British actress Helena Bonham Carter. The star missed out on the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture prize, which went to Melissa Leo for her part in The Fighter. Helena admits she was rather relieved not to have to make an acceptance speech.

The actress was thrilled her The Kings Speech co-star Colin won the best actor award for his portrayal of King George VI though.

"I'm really glad Colin won [best actor award], it was fine. I was so glad I didn't have to get up and give a speech, she confessed to British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. (C) Cover Media
