Alexander Skarsgrd was "probably stoned" as a child because of his "bohemian hippie family".

The actor was one of six children and regularly enjoyed the social lifestyle of his unconventional Swedish family. Alexander has recalled his eccentric upbringing and has joked about the laid-back attitude of his parents.

"[We were] a very bohemian hippie family. I'd fall asleep under the table while people were partying until five in the morning. I loved it. I was probably stoned from second-hand smoke. I loved falling asleep hearing Mum and Dad laughing, having a good time," he recalled to British newspaper The Telegraph.

Alexander now resides in Los Angeles for seven months of the year while filming the critically-acclaimed True Blood television series. The 35-year-old also spends time in Beachwood Canyon in the Hollywood Hills, where a severed head in a plastic bag was found on a hiking trail this year.

Alexander has joked about his penchant for creepy things.

"That's my favourite thing. A hike with a severed head," he quipped. "I love that stuff. Give me the dark stuff."

Alexander has been voted sexiest man alive in Sweden five times and is admired the world over by adoring female fans.

The hunk remains modest about his status as a sex icon.

"I'm glad this didn't happen when I was 17," he said. "It would be too easy to believe the hype. If you're too young, you think this defines me. This is who I really am."
